Note to all my guest

Art by: Sherry Maxwell,  would like to "Thank you" for coming and visiting!
My Blog site is new and I still have lots to add to it.  Most of my past art work, has been "Sold".

I'll be adding photo's of some of my past work soon.  So, please be sure to come back and visit.

My past work include mainly, landscapes and folk art.  Also i've created some relief carvings, which I will display a few of those to. I love doing a wide variety of mediums,
but the most favorite of all, is Oil's.

Currently I'm working on another still life, then onto some small nature work.  When spring returns, I'll
be painting lots of nature, more still life, and landscapes this year.

Please, let me know if you see something you would like to have or would like for me to paint for you. I do take commissons.

Thank you and many Blessings,

Sherry Maxwell

1st Tole Painting 1986

In 1986, I was living in beautiful small town called Andrews.  At the time,  there wasn't a lot of businesses around. But it so happen, during this year, that a retired doctor and his wife moved to the area and opened up a really nice Art store. The wife was a certified Priscilla Hauser folk art teacher. She had a ad in the news paper, offering tole painting classes, so I jumped at the opportunity to become one of her very first students in town. Below is one of those tole paintings taught.  After completing tole classes several months later, this teacher offered me a job assisting her with a larger group of students.  I was so overwhelmed with joy, at this idea. Of course I took her up on it.  So the day had finally came and opened a door for me to show my art passion to the world.  Being I was only in my early 20's and was newly married with my first child, the opportunity couldn't have came at a better time.  Over the next several years, I did many orders, and sold lots of art pieces.  That wonder family later had some health issues and the family moved away.   I learned so much, just by taking tole or folk art classes. So, if you ever want to learn some easy painting techniques, I would recommend this to any age who is just getting started in painting.  If you have a question on tole painting or would like to know were you can find classes, please feel free to ask. Thanks

1st Relief Carving 1999

I've always enjoyed learning different techniques of art.  Most of all my art work is self taught, and a lot of reading.
Below is a carving done a shelving board.  I bought my self a dermal tool and started playing around with it.  Later, I sketched this little squirrel setting on a limb having dinner. In the far back ground I laid in some mountains, to give it a more distance look.  Then I filled in more areas with smaller pine limbs with pine needles.  I used different tips to see what kind of markings each of them would make. I took down the deepest layer with a big cutting tool on its side.
Depending on the way the light shines on the project, gives it different shadow effects, which is awesome.
Love doing these carvings.

"Young Indian Warrior"

Native American people are part of my culture. I have two Great Grandmothers whom both were Cherokee.

I take very much pride in painting my Native culture. Even if its only a little blood, its still family.

Native American's way of life, is strong and full of spirit. Native American's have pride and freedom, that has made them into who they trully are today. With studing there customs and ways of life, I wonder what life would be like.

I try to capture there spirit and widsom in my paintings, such as, there life styles, ceremonies and there legends. Even things they crafted with there own hands from nature.
